If you have hard wood floors and no time to sweep this is gold! Be aware that they still aren't perfect. It will get caught on cords, and try to kill itself with a lost sock. You will probably be replacing it in 2 years. That said I run mine twice a week and love it.

I don't have any pets and there's just two people living in a fairly small house (1200 sq ft), so its more dusty that really dirty. The Roomba 440 does a great job on short pile carpet in the bedrooms and hall. I had vacuumed about five days early with a good canister vacuum, but the Roomba still picked up a ton of dust, lint and hair. It did an especially good job under the beds. I moved small furniture items out of the rooms and draped electric cords up out of the way, so the Roomba had no issues getting stuck. The living room and dining room have wood laminate with area rugs and that was more problematic. The Roomba would bump on the area rug hem (no tassels, just a thick sewn hem) and reacted as if it hit a wall. Eventually it would come at the right angle and find a way up on the rug. It did cause it to take longer than it should have to clean the room because of that... Read more
22 of 23 people found the following review helpful I love this little guy!, August 3, 2011 By This review is from: Roomba 440 Cordless Robot Vacuum (Kitchen) I have had my Roomba now for about a month, and he.... ooops, *it* is wonderful! I have an open plan kitchen, living room and dining room, and the battery will run long enough to clean the entire area if the clutter is picked up. Leaving items on the floor, like a laundry basket or some shoes, will require the Roomba to do extra work cleaning around the item, and then the battery sometimes poops out before finishing the space. Sooooo..... suddenly the family is picking up things off the floor! Our Roomba has carpet, hard wood, and slate tile to contend with and all look great. Roomba will just roll from one to the other with no issues. Twice my Roomba has gone under the (saggy) couch and gotten stuck, but every other time (this would be at least three times per day for a month - Roomba goes over the same spots again and again) it just does its work under there and comes right back out. I did decide to block under the couch yesterday since it doesn't really need to be vacuumed daily... Read more
